It is unfortunate that general dentistry is described with such bland terms. After all, it is general dentistry that is used to prevent the development of cavities and gum disease, to address infection and decay, and is even included in emergency care too! It is why we look at general work in our Rolling Meadows, IL office as such an important issue and why Mike Errico DDS and the team place so much importance on this sort of dental care.
It is important to understand general dentistry in order to recognize why we put such an emphasis on it. If you were to look at a list of the treatments that are considered general, you would see:
- Root canals
- Gum disease treatment
- Pain relief
- Emergency care
You may already know that dental cleanings are recommended at least once, but twice is better, every year. This does not just get your teeth looking and feeling good. It is also going to include the traditional steps for dental exams too. This is because our team is going to do a visual exam, check for any warning signs of periodontal problems (i.e. gum disease or gingivitis), and may even do some x-rays to ensure that no decay is starting.
The cleaning is more of a finishing touch to the exam, and ensures that your teeth and gums are in tip top condition for the next few months.
And what if your general dentistry exam reveals the need for in-depth treatment? That too is readily available. Whether Dr. Errico detects some early decay and recommends some composite fillings (also called tooth-colored fillings) or discovers that decay has spread and root canals are required, it all begins with the general dentistry exam.
The ultimate key to optimally healthy teeth and gums is to have general dentistry exams and treatments at least once per year. If you require emergency care for pain or even damage to the teeth and gums, it too falls within our general dentistry services, and we’ll be glad to help.
