Did you know that a simple thing like chewing some gum (the sugarless kind, of course) after meals can help keep you from developing cavities? Studies have shown that chewing gum for about 20 minutes after you eat increases your saliva flow, which neutralizes acids and carries increased amounts of calcium and phosphate to strengthen your tooth enamel.
Be sure to purchase gum that carries the American Dental Association (ADA) Seal, which means you can be sure it’s sugarless as well as safe and effective. But don’t think that gum can replace your regular routine of brushing twice a day and flossing at least once a day.
Gum also can’t solve all dental issues. Only regular dental check-ups can help you prevent minor problems from becoming major concerns. Have you been neglecting your routine dental visits lately? If so, just give Dr. Michael R. Errico DDS, FAGD, FICOI, PC & Associates a call today at 847-788-0808 and set up an appointment at your earliest convenience.
